South Deering is Chicago community area 51, a 10.9-square-mile area on the Far Southeast Side, about 13 miles from the Loop. South Deering is one of the city’s largest areas by land, much of it former steel mill sites, wetlands and the Big Marsh bike park. Its homes are concentrated in the Jeffery Manor and Trumbull Park blocks.
