Every fact on this site comes from the agency that runs the program or sets the rule, is reviewed by a named, credentialed person, and carries the date it was last checked. This page explains how that works.
Sources we use
- Program rules and amounts: the City of Chicago Department of Housing, the Illinois Housing Development Authority, the Chicago Housing Authority and HUD.
- Taxes: the City of Chicago Department of Finance, the Cook County Assessor and Treasurer, and the Illinois Department of Revenue.
- Contracts and process: the standard Illinois residential contract forms and Illinois-licensed attorneys.
- When a figure comes from a secondary source, such as a program administrator or trade association, we say so and link to it.
Review and dates
- Each page lists its author, its reviewer and the date it was last reviewed.
- Program pages are rechecked regularly and whenever an agency announces a change.
- We do not publish a figure we cannot confirm. If a detail is unknown, the page says so.
Independence
This site is run by a small team of licensed Chicago real estate brokers who are available to readers who want help. Program information is written the same way whether or not a reader contacts a broker.
Corrections
If you find an error, tell us through our contact page. We correct confirmed errors and note the change and date on the page.
Not advice
This site provides general information, not legal, tax or lending advice. Program terms change; confirm details with the administering agency before you rely on them.
